Filtration
Water chemistry alone will not attain proper water quality. Your recirculating system must also meet certain standards. Filtration of dirt and particles is just as important as water chemistry.
The Ohio State Board of Health has established the following standards:
- A pump capable of recirculating the entire pool gallonage in six to eight hours.
- A filter (sand, DE or cartridge) sized to handle that amount of water.
- A flowmeter to indicate GPM (gallons per minute) of water flowing to the pool.
- Proper pressure and/or vacuum gauges, and the proper pipe size to handle that flow-rate.
EXAMPLE: Swimming pool with 200,000 gallons of water:
Flow-rate = 200,000 gallons / 360 minutes (6 hours) = 555 GPM for 6 hr. turnover
Flow-rate = 200,000 gallons / 480 minutes (8 hours) = 416 GPM for 8 hr. turnover
